AI + Teacher = ×18. Our first post about it
Why AI without a teacher barely works, and what Jazion does about it
TL;DR: AI in the hands of a teacher is 18 times more effective than on its own. In this blog, we share the methodology, economics, and engineering behind multilingual AI. Bonus inside — a ready-to-use prompt for your next lesson.
Hi there. My name is Sergey, and together with my team we’re building Jazion — an AI service that listens to language lessons and turns them into a personalized learning, retention and engagement system between classes.
[!mascot] curled up on the laptop, squinting Technically, he’s making us. And I’m the mascot. The face of the operation. Purr.
Okay, we’re making it together. Though who spends more time sleeping on the keyboard remains an open question.
But let’s get straight to the point — why this blog?
One number that explains everything
In early 2025, Gu & Yan published a meta-analysis: what happens when a student gets an AI tutor without a teacher? Almost nothing. But when AI works in tandem with a live teacher? The effect is 18 times stronger.
Eighteen. Not percent — times.
[!mascot] raises an ear Eighteen times! So without you, I’m just a plush toy with Wi-Fi? Harsh, but fair.
Not a plush toy — more like a kitten meowing into an empty room. Without a teacher providing the framework, AI just... chats. But when the framework is there — wow.
This single idea is what Jazion stands on: we don’t replace the teacher, we give them a superpower. Lesson notes in 30 seconds instead of 45 minutes. Personalized spaced repetitions for every student on schedule (like Anki, but automatic). A practice assistant that answers questions in Telegram based on actual lesson content — things the student was too shy to ask during class.
Separately — convenient. Together — an AI exocortex for teachers that no single chatbot can replace.
Your guide to AI-powered teaching
This blog is your guide to teaching with AI — and our open lab journal at the same time. Every post is useful on its own: prompts, techniques, fresh research. And every post is the platform in action.
Three tracks — pick whatever sparks your interest:
-
#learning — cognitive science and pedagogical techniques. The forgetting curve, Data-Driven Learning, how to get the "silent ones" talking. Packed with actionable recipes for your Monday lesson.
-
#economy — numbers for school managers. Our goal: student retention of 12 months instead of the average 4 (+8 months of LTV — that’s real money). How to scale quality control without hiring a team of methodologists.
-
#lab — engineering behind the scenes. How we taught the system to distinguish Serbian from Russian text within a single phrase (yes, that is still rocket science). Fuckups, iterations, and open R&D.
Now — let’s show, not tell
After every lesson in Jazion, the student receives a lesson card: a summary, a thematic illustration with a personalized nomination, vocabulary, homework, and "Inspiration." Let’s imagine this post is a lesson, and you are the students. The topic is "new beginnings and traditions":
[!spotlight] What you're seeing right now
This post is a live demo. The illustration followed was generated by our pipeline from the content of this article — exactly the way it’s generated after every real lesson. And the note below — "Inspiration" — is created automatically: a cultural fact in the course language, matched to the lesson topic.

🌍 Cultural secret
Every Serbian family has a Slava — their own personal patron saint. This is not a general national holiday. It is your family day, passed down from father to son for centuries.
On the day of Slava, the house is open to guests. No invitations — you just show up. On the table: slavski kolač (festive bread), žito (wheat pudding with honey and nuts), and candles. A neighbor might drop by for five minutes or stay until evening. Totally normal.
In 2014, UNESCO inscribed Slava on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The only holiday in the world that is unique to each individual family.
When you start something new, you are laying the foundation for your own little Slava. A tradition you will carry forward. 🐾
[!mascot] leans closer Did you notice? You’ve just read an A2-level text on the lesson topic — full of facts you want to Google. That’s Inspiration. Every lesson, every student, automatically. Not bad for a cat on a keyboard, huh?
🔧 Try it yourself
Want to create a similar "cultural secret" for your lesson? Here is a ready-to-use prompt for any chatbot (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude). Copy it, fill in the topic, and your students will have something to chat about during the break:
[!prompt] Cultural Secret Tell a vibrant and little-known cultural fact related to the topic [LESSON TOPIC], from the life of countries where [COURSE LANGUAGE] is spoken (e.g., Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia).
Rules:
- A tradition, habit, or everyday detail that evokes surprise or warm emotions.
- Style: storytelling approach, start directly with the plot, no introductions.
- Response language: English, A2 level — simple sentences, no complex participle clauses.
- IMPORTANT: rely ONLY on verifiable facts. If unsure about the details, choose another fact. Do not invent names of holidays, dishes, or customs.
- Length: 4-6 sentences.
Lesson topic: ___
In Jazion, such notes are generated automatically after each class, tailored to the language and topic of the specific group. But the prompt is yours to use freely.

AI + учитель = ×18. И первый пост об этом
Почему ИИ без учителя почти не работает и что с этим делает Jazion
TL;DR: ИИ в руках учителя в 18 раз эффективнее, чем сам по себе. В этом блоге мы делимся методикой, экономикой и инженерией мультиязычного AI. Бонус внутри — готовый промпт для вашего урока.
Привет. Меня зовут Сергей, мы с командой делаем Jazion — AI-сервис, который слушает языковые уроки и превращает их в персональную систему обучения, удержания и вовлечения между занятиями.
[!mascot] свернулся на ноутбуке и щурится Technically, he's making us. And I'm the mascot. The face of the operation. Purr.
Eighteen times! So without you, I'm just a plush toy with Wi-Fi? Harsh, but fair.
